Metrocentre Bus Rally

After a long year and half, the NNRG finally headed for North East Bus Presevation Trust bus rally at the Metrocentre today.

With two Volvo B10 BLEs MOT'd two weeks ago it was going to be a cracking day! We left the NNRG HQ, 4855 leading the way, huge smiles from the side of the street, cars and the petrol station when we pulled in for diesel.

The group, with three new members on board 4898 was very excited, singing along to music and having a laugh.

Unfortunately, with Alex at the wheel and Craig up back, we soon realized that 4898 might have become a little excited for it's first day out at a rally since 2019. A quick pull over heading up the A1 revealed that the steering fluid pipe had developed a small leak. We will blame the pot holes and gravel on the roads and definitely not our handy work! Haha! A group decision was made to return to the shed to be on the safe side.

With 4898 tucked back up in bed and worn out Craig, after driving 4898 with reduced power steering, we headed back out with Fred at the helm. Flying along Washington Highway and the A1 the group once again in high spirits for the day. What a relief. Things are looking good once again.

The day went smashing, it was great to catch up with some old friends and make new friends. Talk membership, buses and our new depot to people who have an interest.

It was great too see such a great turn out of vehicles from Weardale and there Routemaster and Leopard to Aycliffe Bus Group and Teesside Bus Group.

At the end of the show, Alex took the helm of 4855, after been in the group since early 2015. Many hours polishing, painting and been in and around the vehicles, it was great to finally have Alex behind the wheel, after he past his test last October.

A cracking ride home and all tucked up for the day, work will start on 4898 next weekend and 4855 will be washed, polished and ready for August the 15th, when the group head down to Bishop Auckland rally.

Once again a great day, awesome to see so many people once again. Please keep supporting the group, individuals and the rallies. They wouldn't be possible without the public, spotters and owners/groups.

See you at Bishop!
