Peter visits the NNRG
The Norrhern National Restoration Group today, 25th June 2023, had the honor to welcome Peter Douglas and his family to the Northern National Restoration Group depot at Philadelphia.
Peter first met the group back in April when FTN710W, 4710, took part in 50 years of transport at Beamish Museum over the King's Coronation Weekend. After a lengthy discussion about buses, life and much more Peter and his family parted ways with the NNRG. They then met back up at the NNRG May open day when the family visited the home of the Northern National Restoration Group.
After parting ways the group learned of Peters diagnosis of Cancer, and the group wanted to give Peter a day he wouldn't forget. The group then put an appeal out over our social media to find 'Peter the Percy Main Driver' and after 2 days the family were contacted via friends about the appeal and we were contacted by the family.
After discussions we settled on a date to give Peter a day which we hope he won't forget for a long time! We wanted to take Peter and his family out on FTN710W the bus which Peter passed his test in June 1992, then moving on to Percy Main Depot.
Well what else could we do? Well after discussions with group members we decided to have a line up of vehicles from the NNRG collection and maybe a suprise, unexpected visitor. So we organised this.
With programed destination screens, L94s, Volvos, VRs and Nationals today was a day which brought so many memories to the scene. A drive of FTN710W, 4710 to the Metro-centre and back must have been a moment!
We hope Peter had a great day, we thank him for his time, his love and stories today! It was a lovley day.
