NNRG awarded Charity Status
We are delighted to announce that today, Tuesday, January 26, 2021, the Northern National Restoration Group has been awarded charity status (Registered Charity Number 1193235) by the Charity Commission. As a group, we pride ourselves on our active role in preserving crucial parts of our region’s transport heritage.
The group, founded in 2006, currently own five vehicles: Leyland National Mk2s 4681 / UPT681V and 4710 / FTN710W, Volvo B10BLE/Wright Renowns 4855 / R855 PRG and 4898 / V988 ETN and Scania L94UB/Wright Eclipse Solar 5217 / NK54 NVN. The first bus the group purchased back in 2006, 4681, is currently under long-term restoration with a goal of being returned to the road by 2025. 4710, acquired in 2013, is undergoing maintenance while 4855 and 4898, purchased in 2015 and 2019 respectively, are both roadworthy and currently awaiting test. Our most recent purchase, 5217, was acquired in 2019 and is awaiting repaint.
We are presently based in a former National Coal Board building at Philadelphia, effective from late 2019. Our current premises dates back to 1906 when it was under the ownership of the Durham Collieries’ Power Company. As a registered charity, we will now be able to apply for funds and grants which we hope will ensure our longevity and provide us with the necessary means to fully restore our vehicles for the enjoyment and education of our local community. We have a lot to look forwards to in the coming years.
